It goes without saying that starting a new job comes with a lot of emotions. There’s the excitement of newness, the joy of meeting new people, and elation that the opportunity to learn new things brings. But there can also be a little bit of anxiety entering a new space with new people. Not to mention the overwhelm of being “green” at your new company as you try to take it all in.

Whether this is your first or fifth job, we want you to feel welcomed and supported as you begin your time with us. And we’ve designed this onboarding program with that goal in mind.

There’s a world of opportunity at Granicus. And, we’re with you every step of the way.

Let’s start off with some brief introductions to help you get your footing on your first day.

Your Onboarding Journey

If you haven’t done so already, take some time to review your onboarding journey.

This high-level roadmap will help you navigate your next 90 days as you learn more about the company, your role within it,
and ways that you can make an impact on our business (and our community).

Your First Day Onboarding Activties

Below, you’ll find a series of activities to help lay a solid foundation during your first day at Granicus. Take your time throughout the day to complete these tasks.

We’ll send you an email at the end of the day to check-in and see how you’re doing.

1. Set Up Your Granicus Corporate Account

Granicus is a tech company, and of course we use technology to do our work. Guides to the core technology we use and the guidelines and protocols we have around this technology are linked below.

As directions differ depending on the type of laptop you have been issued, please go through the instructions that matches the operating system (Windows or Mac) of your laptop by clicking the button below.

2. Meet Your Manager

In your first meeting, your manager will provide your first formal introduction to your role and your functional onboarding journey (i.e., onboarding for your specific role). Your manager will also help set expectations for your role and the onboarding process.

Of course, you will have many meetings with your manager, so they will also likely set a schedule and expectations for one-on-one meetings or team stand-up meetings. They may also discuss how you fit into the team and the objectives the team is currently working on.

Either in your first meeting, or in one of your early meetings together, your manager may gather information about your preferred working style and share theirs.

Your manager should also allow ample time for you to ask questions and clarify anything that may not be clear.

3. Meet Your Buddy

Throughout your onboarding journey, you will be meeting multiple times with an onboarding buddy from your team. Today will be your first meeting.

Your buddy will help you get a sense of how the team operates from the perspective of another team member. They can also provide insights on your role within the team and your onboarding experience.

Their role, as a colleague, is to informally check in with you on your onboarding progress, provide additional support and guidance, and answer any questions you have about your role, your team, and the company. They’re a great resource to learning the more informal ways of the Granicus culture, so be sure to ask them candid questions on your mind.

In addition to your manager, your onboarding buddy will be one of your primary support resources for your functional onboarding.

4. Complete Your Core Compliance Training

One of the most important aspects of your onboarding journey is to complete your core compliance training. This helps us stay compliant with all Federal, State, Local, and Regulatory requirements. (Learn More About Compliance Training.)

Today, the four courses below should be completed before the end of the day. Some of these courses have an assessment at the end that must be passed, so it might be helpful to take a few notes throughout the course. Clicking on any of the tiles below will take you to LearnUpon, Granicus’ learning management system.

Acceptable Use Policy

Granicus’ Acceptable Use Policy helps ensure the protection of Granicus’ customers, partners, and employees from illegal or damaging actions by individuals. This short eLearning course will guide you through the provisions of Granicus’ policy.

Security Awareness Training

With security breaches happening more frequently, Granicus takes security very seriously. This eLearning course will guide you through the policies and practices surrounding security awareness at Granicus.

Insider Threat Training

In conjunction with our Security Awareness training, it’s important that you also know what to do in the event that you discover an insider threat at Granicus. This eLearning course will help you identify insider threats and guide you on what steps to take should you encounter one.

Privacy Training

Privacy is critical to Granicus’ customers and employees. This eLearning course will guide you through multiple privacy guidelines and regulations and help you understand your role in protecting privacy at Granicus.

“In the Fall of 2015, I first started working for a small govTech company focused on building government websites. As I was telling my granpa about my job transition, he stopped me to ask, “Will you be helping to re-design the Veteran Affairs website? That thing is awful and I can never find anything I need.” I chuckled since I knew it was unlikely, but it was at that very moment that I knew my role had a direct purpose – to help serve the people, serving the people. I had the opportunity to make experiencing government easier for my friends, family, and millions of people around the world.

Fast-forward to today, well past the time that small startup was acquired by Granicus, and I continue to remember not only that moment, but many other moments where the direct work I support at Granicus delivers outcomes to our clients far and wide. As Sr. Director, Platform Growth Strategy, my team supports the go-to-market strategy for the Government Experience Cloud. Clients who use our platform have a purpose and they achieve desired outcomes.

For example, a U.S. west coast city hosting the Super Bowl needed our support to ensure their website supported the sustained 15x traffic volumes while regularly communicating via email and text about parking, safety, and things to do Super Bowl weekend. Many U.S. east coast municipalities and counties use the Government Experience Cloud in the Southeast during hurricane season to send notifications of evacuation routes, post important updates, or enable residents to request services from their phone. Granicus clients in the U.K. have used our platform to help manage volunteers supporting Ukraine refugee intake.

Our work at Granicus and the solutions we offer via Government Experience Cloud impact the lives of millions of people around the world. As I start my 8th year at Granicus I often sit on many panel interviews as a hiring manager. More often than not, the candidate asks me, “You have stayed at Granicus for a long time. What keeps you here?”

Each time, without hesitation, I tell them a similar story about my grandpa’s questions in 2015 and share a few soundbites of the impact we deliver and outcomes our clients achieve.
